Hello, Healthy lifestylers! It took some time for me to get here but it’s not in the time, day or year but that I got here. Now where is here and who am I? I’m Bre, a east coast transplant from the piedmont area of North Carolina. My here is my awareness that good and improved health is a lifestyle change and journey. It’s a marathon, that exhausting, tiring but so worth it each and every day. Especially when we observe our small and big wins that show our improvements in the way we look, feel AND think!
Moving to Los Angeles, during the pandemic was perfect and allowed me the chance to adjust to a city larger in population than every city in North Carolina. Relocating was not only a cultural lifestyle change but impacted me through food, body movement and mental health. It was very helpful that I began researching my proposed new lifestyle four years before I moved. As I would visit my son over the four years prior, we often hiked trails and discovered vegan foods. Over time I found that both made me feel better, physically and mentally. The test was going back home after those visits and weaning myself from high calorie buffets, Sunday dinners and holiday feasts of ham, turkey, mac n cheese, gravy, and biscuits. Whew! And hiking was non existent for me. I had no friends that hiked and very few that even walked at the local high school track. But one day at a time, I began to change my mind about food and body movement especially with plans to move to Los Angeles.
I will share more about my move later but for now, here’s 3 steps toward a healthy lifestyle change:
- Shift your mindset: Embrace the idea that change is possible at any age. As someone over 50, don’t allow your age to limit you. If you can conceive it, YOU can achieve it!
- Social Interaction: Move out of your comfort zone through experiencing new cultures, locations, and foods. If you are experiencing health issues, certain foods and environments can be the culprit.
- Physically: Until moving here, I didn’t know that I NEEDED to see people moving their bodies without being in a gym. I now am reminded from childhood that I love being outside and discovering nature. I enjoy oceanside and urban trails. My desired locations for movement get me out there and counting my steps.
Think about shifting your mindset, improving your social interaction and how YOU like to move your body. Now that’s a Great start! Let’s discover our HEALTHY together each week. Feel free to leave comments and questions. Let’s create our BEST healthy lifestyle together!
